Jaw surgery involves orthognathic surgery which is the surgical correction of lower (mandible) and/or upper (maxilla) jaws. Underlying skeletal problems can arise during growth with genetic factors influencing overgrowth, undergrowth and asymmetry of the jaws.
Jaw surgery can also address cleft lip and palate, facial trauma, neoplasms, surgical resection and radiation damage (iatrogenic). |
